THE BUILDING
Located in the heart of Palm Springs, Villa Alejo (pronounced VEE-ah Ah-LAY-ho) is an exceptional mid-century modern building surrounding a central courtyard with palm trees and pool.
Built in 1966 by architects Robert Meyers and Victor Koozin, Villa Alejo was originally an apartment building said to house friends of the movie stars who made their homes in the adjacent Movie Colony neighborhood.
Villa Alejo is famous for its bris soleil façade, sometimes called breeze block. Bris soleil means “breaking the sun” in French, and that is what the staggered concrete pipes do, ensuring residents enjoy cool breezes without direct sun. You’ll enjoy a direct view of the bris soleil from the kitchen and guest room of the Arcadian.
Look for sightseers who stop to gawk at Villa Alejo as they visit Palm Spring’s most notable mid-century sights, and smile knowing you’re at the center of it all.
THE OWNERS
Lester Pyle and Gwyn Cready.
We've loved Palm Springs since our first visit five years ago--the architecture, the weather, the culture, the mountains, the people, the closeness to L.A., Las Vegas, San Diego, and Arizona.
What's not to love, right? We've traveled all over, but we've never found a place quite like it. We bought the Arcadian on a whim--we're East Coasters--and it's brought us such joy.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
